This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the series being covered here wouldn’t exist.

The horrors of pregnancy! That’s the premise of AHS: Delicate, the latest installment in the American Horror Story franchise created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. While we’ve already gotten a clip with some very strong spider/in-vitro fertilization vibes, the trailer released today sheds some light on what the actual plot of the series will be.

Do you want an Oscar as much as you want a baby? That’s what Kim Kardashian’s character says to the protagonist of the film, a woman (Emma Roberts) who is an increasingly famous actor who is also doing all she can to get pregnant (and also win an Oscar?)

One of those things, it seems, is to trust some “doctors” who impregnate her with an arachnid-leaning fetus that is making her hair fall out. (Or turn into web-like threads? I’m not sure, to be honest.) Either way, her husband doesn’t believe her—and flat out calls her hysterical—when she voices her concerns that their child is, in fact, a spider baby. It’s not great for her! And also suitably disturbing, as American Horror Story is wont to be.

In addition to Kardashian and Roberts, the limited series stars Cara Delevingne, Matt Czuchry, Billie Lourd, Denis O’Hare, Leslie Grossman, and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez.

AHS: Delicate, Part One will premiere September 20, 2023 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on FX, and will stream the next day on Hulu. No news yet on when Part Two will grace a television screen near you.
